SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 14) – Following the second round of play, freshman Oscar Lönnqvist claimed sole possession of the lead at the Conference Carolinas Championship with a score of three-under 141 at The Carolina Country Club on Monday.

As a team, the University of Mount Olive men's golf program sits seven strokes off the lead in second place after shooting 19-over 595 (297-298). Barton, the two-time defending champion, enters the final round with a score of 12-over 588 (290-298) with three golfers inside the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Shorter rounds out the top three at 21-over 597 (298-299) with a duo of golfers tied individually for seventh overall.

Lonnqvist matched the lowest-scoring round of the event on Monday after carding a two-under 70 with four birdies while converting 12 pars. He holds the individual lead by two strokes at three-under 141 (71-70), behind eight birdies and 24 pars through 36 holes of competition.

Junior Shawn Benson stands at five-over 149 (76-73) and is tied for 13th overall in a field of over 50 golfers. On Monday, he fired a one-over 73 with four total birdies, including back-to-back on the fifth and sixth holes.

Fellow junior Max Lindblad finished the second round at 10-over 154 (75-79) with 11 pars and shot two-over on the back nine at the league tournament. He is currently tied for 34th overall with two birdies and 22 pars. Freshman Lavrans Broen Holm is tied for 37th on the leaderboard with a score of 11-over 155 (75-80), knocking down one birdie and nine pars on day two.

Senior Gabriel Ekholm made his debut at the conference championship during the second round and shot a four-over 76 with three birdies, including a pair on two of the final three holes.

Mount Olive closes out play at the Conference Carolinas Championship tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15, with a tee time in the third round at approximately 9:20 a.m.
