MOUNT OLIVE (April 12) – The University of Mount Olive men's track & field program collected six victories and set multiple season-best marks at the Trojan Relays hosted at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Saturday.
Sophomore
Matthew Heywood established a new personal-best mark and set the second-best distance in the Conference Carolinas with a toss of 54.52 meters in the hammer throw to place second overall. Fellow sophomore
Adam Turner finished fifth in the event with a distance of 50.48 meters, which was a career-best mark and sits fourth in the league this season.
In the triple jump, sophomore
Ryan Wilson-McCoy captured first place with a leap of 14.82 meters on his first attempt. Fellow sophomore
Zacharie Fedelus delivered a season-best mark of 13.88 meters to secure a fifth-place finish in the event.
Junior
Kavon Poindexter cleared 2.00 meters in the high jump to claim first place and match the second-best mark in the Conference Carolinas this season. Fellow junior
Kobe Jones placed third overall with a season-best clearance of 1.95 meters, while graduate student
Holden Gerth set a mark of 1.85 meters.
In the discus, freshman
Amari Noble registered a first-place finish with a distance of 52.36 meters on his second attempt of the event. Junior
Tyrese Lavender placed fourth with a toss of 46.38 meters while sophomore
Jaylin Durbin earned fifth overall with a season-best mark of 44.66 meters.
Sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson secured first place in the shot put with a toss of 15.99 meters on his third attempt on Saturday. Senior
Nicholas Cloud posted the third-best mark in the Conference Carolinas and placed third with a distance of 15.75 meters. Turner finished sixth in the event with a mark of 14.21 meters.
In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore
Evan Hall recorded the fourth-best time in the Conference Carolinas and placed first overall with a time of 9:52.66. Fellow sophomore
Devon Coughlin finished fourth after crossing the line in 11:19.13.
Senior
Riley Willcox produced a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:55.61, ranking fifth in the Conference Carolinas. Freshman
Titus Tanui hit the league qualifying standard and placed third with a time of 1:57.02.
In the 100-meter dash, junior
Jason Hart finished second overall with a time of 10.54 seconds, while freshman
Jacoby Pevia placed sixth after crossing the line in 10.74 seconds. Fellow freshman
Leland Smith registered a seventh-place finish with a time of 10.78 seconds.
Jones finished as the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters, which ranks sixth in the league this season. Fedelus placed third overall with a distance of 6.87 meters.
Gerth delivered a second-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 56.49 meters, while freshman
Caleb Bass placed fifth with a mark of 44.11 meters.
Junior
Josh Hendren earned second place in the 10,000 meters after crossing the line in 34:49.37. Freshman
Ayden Thompson also competed in the event and finished third with a mark of 34:49.49.
Senior
Andrew Nixon recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and hit the conference standard with a time of 21.97 seconds.
In the 400 meters, freshman
Travelius Leach placed fourth after crossing the line in 49.33 seconds while graduate student
Brian Saul posted a time of 49.85 seconds to finish sixth.
The Trojans are scheduled to return to action April 18-19 at the App State Open hosted in Boone, North Carolina.
