SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 13) – Freshman
Oscar Lönnqvist shot a one-under 71 and sits third on the individual leaderboard at the Conference Carolinas Championship, as the Trojans also hold third place in the team standings following the opening round on Sunday.
The University of Mount Olive men's golf program carded a nine-over 297 in the first round while competing at The Carolina Country Club. Barton and Emmanuel sit first overall in the team standings after shooting a two-over 290. Barton featured a trio in the top 10, while the Lions had four individuals in the top 15 on the leaderboard.
Lonnqvist holds third place individually following the initial 18 holes of competition and shot a one-under 71. He played the back nine at four-under while tallying three straight birdies from the 14th through 16th holes. Additionally, Lonnqvist tallied a team-best 12 pars on the par-72 course.
Freshman
Lavrans Broen Holm and junior
Max Lindblad are both tied for 19th overall after firing a three-over 75. Holm registered an eagle on the par-five 18th and shot two-under on the back nine on Sunday. He also finished with two birdies and nine pars to complete his opening round. Lindblad recorded two birdies and ranked second on the team with 11 pars.
Junior
Shawn Benson rounded out the team with a score of four-over 76 to tie for 23rd. He totaled four birdies and seven pars for the Trojans. Sophomore
Jonas Arnstrom Bakker shot a six-over 78 while converting three birdies and nine pars.
North Greenville senior Eli Kinlaw and King senior Tyler Kipp both shot a two-under 70 on Sunday and sit first overall at the league tournament.
The Trojans continue to play at the Conference Carolinas Championships tomorrow, Monday, April 14, with tee times in the second round set for approximately 9:20 a.m.
