NEWBERRY, S.C. (April 12) – Following five unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of play, the Trojans pulled away to secure a 13-8 win at Newberry on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse program secures a regional victory and improves to 8-7 this season. The Trojans remain a perfect 5-0 in the series with the Wolves, including three wins coming on the road. Meanwhile, Newberry drops to 10-5 overall while holding a 3-1 record against Conference Carolinas opponents.

Alexa Fitzgerald delivered a four-point performance with two goals and two assists, while sophomore
Caroline Clark registered a hat trick. Fifth-year
Logan Hibbard totaled three goals, eight draw controls, one caused turnover and three ground balls against the Wolves. Defensively, sophomore

Maddy Fratus and
Alex Goodale tallied two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
In the first quarter, Hibbard netted the opening goal at the 9:58 mark to take a 1-0 advantage before Newberry countered by scoring three of the next four goals to establish a 3-2 edge. The Trojans regained the lead after scoring consecutive goals in under two minutes before the Wolves tied the game at 4-4 at the 1:32 mark. In the final minute, redshirt sophomore
Katie Broom scored off an assist by Fitzgerald to hold a 5-4 lead. After Newberry tied the contest in the initial minute of the second quarter, freshman
Lyndzy Palensky registered a goal on a man-up opportunity to take a 6-5 advantage. Clark added to the lead with a free-position goal at the 6:11 mark, but the Wolves responded with a goal to head into the break trailing by a 7-6 margin.
Following another goal by Clark to begin the third quarter, Newberry produced back-to-back goals to tie the game at 8-8. Fratus registered a free-position goal at the 4:48 mark to hold a 9-8 advantage heading into the fourth. The Trojans shut out the Wolves in the final quarter of play and added goals from freshman
Morghan Pollock, Clark, Hibbard, and Fitzgerald to secure a 13-8 win.
Senior goalkeeper
Anna James totaled double-digit saves with 10 on 26 shots faced in 60 minutes of action.
The Trojans outshot their opponent by a 35-26 margin while going 15-of-16 on clearances.
Mount Olive will close the regular season on Wednesday, April 16, against Converse in Conference Carolinas play at 5 p.m.
