Men's Golf wins Chowan Intercollegiate

AHOSKIE, N.C. (Apr. 1) – After featuring all seven golfers in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard, the University of Mount Olive men's golf program captured the tournament title at The Chowan Intercollegiate, which was hosted at the Beechwood Country Club.

The Trojans fired a score of 10-over 874 (298-289-287) to collect their first tournament title since the Laker Spring Break Shootout in March 2024. Mount Olive matched the lowest round of the event on the final day of competition with a one-under 287. UMO was crown champions via a tiebreaker of the final round scores by the fifth player in each lineup. Barton (B) team also finished with a final score of 10-over 874 (294-287-293) and the Barton (A) team placed third with a 20-over 884 (289-296-299).

Freshman Oscar Lönnqvist produced his best-career finish with the Trojans after finishing as the runner-up at the Chowan Intercollegiate. He carded an impressive final score of three-under 211 (71-71-71) with 12 birdies and 33 pars. Lönnqvist converted four birdies in all three rounds while playing the par-four 3rd hole at a combined three-under.

Sophomore Jonas Arnstrom Bakker tied for eighth overall with a score of seven-over 223 (81-69-73) behind one eagle, nine birdies, and 27 pars. He shot an outstanding three-under 69 in the second round and made an eagle on the par-five 18th. Freshman Lavrans Broen Holm also placed eighth overall after shooting a seven-under 223 (74-79-70) with one eagle, 12 birdies, and 22 pars.

Junior Max Lindblad registered a score of eight-over 224 (74-73-77) to tie for 12th overall after knocking down 10 birdies and 30 pars. Fellow junior Shawn Benson rounded out the team scorers after carding a 12-over 228 (79-76-73) with 10 birdies and 24 pars.

Competing individually, senior Edvin Perman carded a final score of seven-over 223 (74-72-77) to tie for eighth while converting eight birdies and 30 pars. Fellow senior Caleb Tatum tied for 14th overall after shooting a nine-over 225 (72-75-78) with one eagle, six birdies, and 32 pars. He delivered an impressive first round performance with three-straight birdies on the front nine and an eagle on par-five 16th.

Barton senior Mitchell Soma earned individual medalist honors by two strokes with a five-under 211 (73-66-72) behind one eagle and 11 birdies in three rounds of play.

UMO is idle for two weeks before competing for the Conference Carolinas Championship, beginning on April 13 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at the Carolina Country Club.
