MOUNT OLIVE (March 28) – Sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson set an NCAA Provisional Standard in the shot put, as the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program registered six event victories at the 8th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge hosted at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
Asgeirsson placed first overall in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 16.75 meters, which ranks among the top 15 in NCAA Division II this season.
In 200 meters, junior
Jason Hart secured a first-place finish after crossing the line in 21.18 seconds. Freshman
Jacoby Pevia hit the conference standard and finished fifth overall with a time of 21.56 seconds. Freshman
Jon Crymes, Jr. registered a seventh-place finish with a mark of 21.78 seconds to qualify for conference, while junior
Jamavie Glover placed eighth with a time of 21.79 seconds. Additionally, freshman
Leland Smith (21.98), junior
Andrew Nixon (21.99), and senior
Christopher Kirksey (22.09) hit the league mark.
Graduate student
Holden Gerth delivered a first-place finish in the javelin following a toss of 57.77 meters, while freshman
Caleb Bass placed third overall with a distance of 47.30 meters to reach the league standard.
In the discus, freshman
Amari Noble finished first overall with a mark of 49.20 meters, while junior
Tyrese Lavender posted a third-place finish with a toss of 45.43 meters. Bass also placed fourth overall in the event with a distance of 42.57 meters.
Senior
Riley Willcox recorded a pair of event victories on Friday, following a time of 1:57.85 in the 800 meters before crossing the line in 4:03.39 in the 1500 meters. Freshman
Titus Tanui posted a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.05. Sophomore
Evan Hall placed third in the 1500 meters and qualified for conference with a marl of 4:08.94.
In the 100 meters, Hart produced a blistering pace of 10.50 seconds in the 100 meters to finish second and reach the league qualifying mark. Pevia placed third with an improved time of 10.58 seconds while Glover claimed fourth after crossing the line in 10.62 seconds. Smith (10.73), freshman

Senior
Nicholas Cloud secured second place in the shot put with a toss of 15.74 meters, while sophomore
Adam Turner finished fourth with a mark of 14.14 meters.
In the hammer throw, sophomore
Matthew Heywood recorded a second-place finish with an improved distance of 52.55 meters. Bass claimed third with a season-best mark of 49.54 meters and Turner finished fourth with a toss of 49.20 meters. Sophomore
Jaylin Durbin improved his distance of 44.32 meters in the event.
Sophomore
Zacharie Fedelus finished as the runner-up in the long jump with an improved mark of 7.07 meters. Junior
Andrew Pender placed fourth in the event with a distance of 6.92 meters while junior
Kobe Jones qualified with a leap of 6.84 meters and placed fifth. Smith also reach the league standard in the long jump following a mark of 6.80 meters.
Jones also hit the conference mark in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters.
In the 400 meters, Kirksey placed fourth overall and qualified with a time of 49.49 seconds. Graduate student
Brian Saul finished fifth after crossing the line in 49.94 seconds, while Cryme, Jr. improved with a time of 49.02 seconds.
Junior
Brendin Marks posted an improved mark of 14.59 meters in the triple jump and hit the qualifying standard.
Freshman
Ayden Thompson finished fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:24.15 while junior
Josh Hendren placed fifth with a mark of 16:37.48.
Senior
Richard Villafranco recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase behind a time of 10:44.54.
The Trojans are scheduled to return to action April 4-5 at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Points.
