BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 8) – Freshman
Futoria Harris shattered her Conference Carolinas and UMO record in the 60-meter dash this weekend, as the University of Mount Olive track & field program competed in the Doc Hale Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.
Harris set a conference and program record on Friday evening with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash after crossing the line in 7.40 seconds. She breaks her previous mark of 7.49 seconds, which she set in the season-opening Liberty Kickoff in early December. Following her NCAA mark at Virginia Tech, Harris ranks seventh in NCAA Division II in the 60m. Additionally, she improved her NCAA Provisional mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.58 seconds to place sixth overall.
In the weight throw, junior
Kenisha Barnes established an NCAA mark in the weight throw following a toss of 17.17 meters on her third attempt to place ninth overall. She currently paces the Southeast Region and the Conference Carolinas in the event. Additionally, sophomore
Elin Rydqvist improved her distance with a mark of 15.82 meters while junior
Rolanda Desir-Moreau delivered a toss of 15.66 meters.
Senior
Karla Hormazabal posted a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.08 meters to reach the NCAA provisional standard. Freshman
Janara Bryant competed in the event and placed eighth following an NCAA mark of 11.77 meters. She also participated in the long jump and produced an NCAA standard of 5.81 meters to finish fourth overall
Sophomore
Heavan Roberts registered a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash after crossing the line in 24.61 seconds, which eclipsed the NCAA mark.
On the men's side, graduate student
Brian Saul improved his mark in the 400 meters with a time of 49.63 seconds, which ranks seventh all-time in program history.
Junior
Jason Hart garnered a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash after crossing the line in 21.79 seconds.
Sophomore
Zacharie Fedelus produced a leap of 6.70 meters to place seventh in the long jump. Fellow sophomore
Ryan Wilson-McCoy secured a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.34 meters.
In the shot put, sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson earned the sixth-place finish with a toss of 15.59 meters, while senior
Nicholas Cloud placed eighth with a distance of 14.92 meters.
Mount Olive will return to action on Feb. 14-15 at the D1 Prenational Invite in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
