HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 18) – After carding the third-lowest final round on Tuesday, the University of Mount Olive women's golf program placed ninth in the team standings at the Battle at Hilton Head, hosted by Barton.
Mount Olive finished ninth overall in a highly competitive field featuring six Conference Carolinas programs. The Trojans fired a score of 96-over 960 (331-320-309) with a pair of golfers in the top-25 overall. No. 2 ranked Wingate captured the tournament title by 16 strokes with a 42-over 906 (310-302-294) with four golfers in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard. Carson Newman claimed second after carding a 58-over 922 (306-311-305) while Lincoln Memorial finished third with a score of 62-over 926 (311-306-309).
Senior
Victoria Morelli tied for 21st overall after shooting a 19-over 235 (76-77-82) while tying for the team-lead with four birdies and knocking down 30 pars over three rounds of play. Two positions back, sophomore
Valentina Agostino climbed eight spots on the final day with a score of 20-over 236 (78-82-76) behind two birdies and 32 pars at the Robert Trent Jones Course.
Fellow sophomore
Lucie Levet carded a score of 28-over 244 (88-79-77) to tie for 43rd with a team-leading four birdies while converting 26 pars. Junior
Aoi Ito tied for 56th place with a final score of 38-over 254 (94-82-78) with three birdies and 23 pars. Fellow junior
Elin Kennborn also finished in a tie for 56th after firing a 38-over 254 (89-87-78) behind two birdies and 24 pars.
Wingate freshman Amely Bochaton secured individual medalist honors by one stroke after shooting five-over 221 (77-72-72) with eight birdies.
Mount Olive is idle for three weeks before returning to the course on March 10-11 for the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe, North Carolina.
