Moerkerken named SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. (Dec. 18) – For the first time in program history, the University of Mount Olive field hockey program featured the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as senior midfielder Annefleur Moerkerken garnered the award on Wednesday afternoon.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

This season, Moerkerken was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Team, All-SAC First-Team, and received SAC All-Tournament status. She became the first-ever player with the team to secure all-conference honors in four consecutive years. Moerkerken registered the third-highest point total in a single season with 34 points behind 12 goals and a league-leading 10 assists in 19 games.

A native of Driebergen, Netherlands, Moerkerken maintains a 3.84 grade-point-average (GPA) while pursuing a degree in biology. She becomes the first-ever Mount Olive player to receive the honor in program history and is a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recipient.
