SALEM, Va. (Jan. 18) – The University of Mount Olive men's track & field program established multiple new qualifying marks and set several top-10 marks in program history while competing at the Finn Pincus Invite hosted by Roanoke College.
Freshman
Travelius Leach captured a first-place finish in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 49.92 seconds on Saturday. Additionally, graduate student
Brian Saul hit a conference qualifying mark in the event after placing fourth with a time of 50.61 seconds.
Fellow freshman
Titus Tanui posted the second-best time in the Conference Carolinas in the 800 meters after finishing as the runner-up with a time of 1:59.33.
In the 200 meters, junior
Jason Hart secured a second-place finish with a time of 22.58 seconds while Leach finished sixth overall after crossing the line in 22.75 seconds. Saul also competed in the event and placed seventh with a time of 22.77 seconds.
Sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson earned a third-place finish while competing in the shot put after recording a distance of 16.00 meters, which leads the Conference Carolinas this year. It is also the second-best mark in program history. Freshman
Amari Noble moved up to fifth all-time at UMO in the shot put with a toss of 15.19 meters to place fourth. Senior
Nicholas Cloud finished fifth overall with a mark of 15.15 meters.
Senior
Riley Willcox placed second overall in the 1,000 meters after crossing the line in 2:34.18 while in Virginia.
Sophomore
Zacharie Fedelus earned third place in the long jump following an improved leap of 7.03 meters, which ranks fifth all-time at Mount Olive. Junior
Brendin Marks also improved his qualifying mark with a distance of 6.93 meters to place fifth.
In the weight throw, sophomore
Adam Turner posted a personal record of 15.64 meters to place fourth overall and record the 10th-best mark in program history. Sophomore
Matthew Heywood finished fifth with a toss of 15.59 meters, while freshman
Caleb Bass earned seventh with a mark of 15.21 meters. Cloud hit the conference standard with a distance of 13.48 meters and sophomore
Jaylin Durbin reached the qualifying mark with a toss of 13.29 meters.
Freshman
Wonderful Fadipe secured fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.53 meters while sophomore
Princeton Loch improved his distance to 13.36 meters and finished fifth overall.
Junior
Jamavie Glover finished eighth while competing in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.13 seconds.
The Trojans continue the indoor campaign next weekend on Jan. 24-25 with the VMI Invite held in Lexington, Virginia.
