ELON, N.C. (Sept. 6) – The University of Mount Olive women's cross country program posted a seventh-place finish after opening the 2024 season at the Elon Opener on Friday night.
The Trojans totaled 215 points at the nine-team event as the field featured nearly 80 competitors. Host Elon claimed the team championship with 16 points after its runner secured five of the six top spots on the individual leaderboard. Davidson placed second overall with 47 points behind a trio of individuals in the top 10 overall while Charlotte finished third with 84 points.
Freshman
Alex White led the team in her collegiate debut after placing 37th overall with a time of 15 minutes, 43.1 seconds in the four-kilometer race.
Fellow freshman
Alyssa Callihan posted a time of 17:12.1 to finish 58th overall in a field featuring four Division I opponents. Senior
Caroline Allred placed 69th in the season-opening race with a time of 18:51.2 while senior
Josie Kilborn finished four spots back in 73rd after crossing the line in 19:40.8. Teammate Natalyah Wilson rounded out the team score in 78th place with a time of 23:21.6.
Elon graduate student Madison Synowiec earned individual medalist honors with a time of 14:02.8 on Friday.
Mount Olive returns to action next week at the Queens City Invite on Friday, Sept. 13, at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
