BRISTOL, Tenn. (Sept. 28) – Senior
Tianna Hill delivered a five-point performance behind two goals and one assist, as the Trojans rolled past King by a 5-1 margin on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team improves to 3-1-3 overall behind a 2-1-1 mark in conference action after competing in three matches this week. The Trojans hold a seven-game winning streak in the series, scoring four or more goals in five meetings since 2017. Meanwhile, King drops to 0-4-1 this season with a 0-2-1 record in league play.
Mount Olive established an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute after Hill scored her sixth goal of the season after working around the defender to find the back of the net following a pass from senior
Olivia Womack. At the 21:02 mark, the Trojans extended the lead to 2-0 after Hill collected a loose ball off her initial shot and delivered a pass to Womack, who scored her first goal of the season. Just over four minutes later, sophomore
Yaneli Sanchez peppered a shot into the top-left corner of the net to stretch the advantage to 3-0 in the first half. Hill tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the year at the 36:17 mark after scoring off a rebound from an initial save by the goalie, 4-0.
In the second half, junior
Natalia Kaminski recorded her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute off an assist from sophomore
Malia Acevedo to extend the lead to 5-0. The Tornado avoided a shutout after Ella Froehlich scored at the 66:44 mark, but Mount Olive ultimately sealed the 5-1 win on the road.
Senior goalkeeper
Samantha Gildner totaled three saves while competing in 80-plus minutes between the posts, while fellow senior
Cailey Bruni finished the final 9:43 of the match.
Mount Olive out-shot King by a 16-12 margin while King finished with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Trojans return to Amon Field on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to face Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas play, starting at 4 p.m.
