MOUNT OLIVE (Oct. 2) – Despite scoring the first goal of the match, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program suffered a 4-1 loss against Francis Marion on Wednesday afternoon at Amon Field in Conference Carolinas action.
With the loss, the Trojans have their three-match undefeated streak snapped and fall to 3-2-3 this season with a 2-2-1 record in league play. Francis Marion has claimed victory in the last three meetings in the series and holds the top spot in the East Division. Meanwhile, the Patriots improve to 5-1-2 overall behind a 4-0-1 mark in conference action.
Mount Olive established an early 1-0 lead after senior
Tianna Hill scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season just two minutes into the contest. Francis Marion quickly tied the match at 1-1 in the 15th minute after Kristina Syragakis netted her league-leading ninth goal off a rebound from the crossbar. At the 30:36 mark, the Patriots grabbed the lead after a corner kick from Syragakis was headed home by Tehya Dave, 2-1. The Trojans totaled two shots and a pair of corner kicks in the final 15 minutes but went into the break trailing by one goal.
In the second half, Francis Marion controlled possession and extended its lead to 3-1 in the 56th minute following a cross in front of the goal that Ashley Jordan scored. The Patriots added an insurance goal at the 82:02 mark as Dave collected her second of the match, 4-1.

Samantha Gildner registered six saves while facing 24 shots in 90 minutes of play.
The Patriots finished with a 24-5 shot advantage in the contest while holding a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Mount Olive is idle for a week before returning to league action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Barton with the kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
