BRISTOL, Tenn. (Sept. 28) – Senior
Guilherme Semola produced two goals on Saturday afternoon, as the Trojans delivered a 4-0 shutout victory at King in Conference Carolinas play at Park Field.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive men's soccer program improves to 2-3-1 this season with a 1-1-1 record in league action. It marked a third consecutive win over the Tornado since 2021 with all victories coming by at least four goals. Meanwhile, King falls to 1-4-1 overall behind a 0-3-1 mark in conference play.
The Trojans established an early lead in the seventh minute, as junior
Juan Gonzalez-Gancedo delivered a pass into the box off a failed clearance before fellow junior
Joao Barboza Filho scored off the right post, 1-0. The first half remained competitive between the sides with King going into the break with a 5-4 edge in shots while Mount Olive recorded the lone corner kick.
In the second half, freshman
Kevin Jimenez evaded three defenders before scoring from the top of the box into the far post at the 55:41 mark, the first of his collegiate career, 2-0. In the 69th minute, Mount Olive extended the lead to 3-0 after junior
Zachary Applewhite drove the ball into the box and delivered a pass to Semola, who buried it into the back of the net. The Trojans would add an insurance goal at the 74:41 mark after a corner kick sent into the box from senior
Christen Lugo-Elibox was headed home by Semola to seal the 4-0 road win.
Senior goalkeeper
Axel Engren received the win after recording five saves in 78-plus minutes of action while fellow senior
Michael Deleo played the final 11:26 and collected a save.
The Trojans finished with a 14-10 advantage in total shots while also holding a 7-1 lead in corner kicks.
UMO returns to divisional play in the Conference Carolinas this Wednesday, Oct. 2, against Francis Marion at Amon Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
