ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (Sept. 24) – The University of Mount Olive men's golf program finished sixth overall in the team standings on Tuesday following three rounds of play at the 14th Annual Jay Jennison Cup, hosted by Flagler.
The Trojans placed sixth overall with a 36-over 900 (307-293-300) in a highly competitive field featuring 10 teams while playing The Palencia Club. Wingate delivered a dominant performance to earn the team title by 10 strokes with a final score of nine-over 873 (291-290-292) with four golfers in the top 15 overall. Rollins posted a score of 19-over 883 (301-290-292) with a trio of individuals tied for fourth place while Embry Riddle rounded out the top three after carding a 29-over 893 (302-398-293).
Freshman
Oscar Lönnqvist tied for 12th overall in a field of nearly 60 golfers after firing a five-over 221 (74-74-73) over three rounds of play in Florida. He produced a stellar final round on Tuesday with a score of one-over 73 with one birdie and 15 pars to climb three positions on the leaderboard. Lönnqvist finished the event tied for the team lead with eight birdies and made 36 pars.
Junior
Shawn Benson jumped eight spots on the individual leaderboard to tie for 26th with a score of 10-over 226 (75-74-77) behind eight birdies and 30 pars. Junior
Max Lindblad made his first appearance of the fall season and tied 36th overall after posting a 13-over 229 (81-71-77) with four birdies and 35 pars. Senior
Edvin Perman finished in a tie for 41st with a score of 15-over 231 (77-74-80) while registering six birdies and 32 pars. Junior
Matthew Richardson rounded out the team with a 16-over 232 (84-75-73) to tie for 45th overall behind seven birdies and 30 pars.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior Holt Allison earned medalist honors with an impressive score of nine-under 207 (70-70-67).
Mount Olive returns to the course next week for the Upstate Intercollegiate hosted by North Greenville on Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 at the Greer Country Club.
