DUE WEST, S.C. (Sept. 14) – In the Conference Carolinas opener, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program delivered a 3-0 victory over Erskine on Saturday afternoon behind a two-goal performance from sophomore
Malia Acevedo.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 1-0-1 this season behind a 1-0 mark in league play. The Mount Olive offense ranks first in the Conference Carolinas with a 3.50 scoring average after totaling seven goals through the opening two games of the year. Meanwhile, the Flying Fleet falls to 1-1 overall with a 0-1 record in conference action.

Samantha Gildner was called into action with a massive save at the near post to keep the contest scoreless. The Trojans quickly regrouped by forcing a turnover at midfield before senior
Tianna Hill played a through ball to sophomore
Yaneli Sanchez to score the opening goal at the 2:19 mark, 1-0. Sanchez paces the team this season with three goals after scoring a brace against Wingate in the season opener last week. UMO continued to control possession while tallying 14 more shots and six corners for the remainder of the first half.
The Trojans would extend their lead in the 62nd minute of the second half, as sophomore
Jada Turner played through the middle of the field and found Acevedo, who scored her first career goal, 2-0. Just under 10 minutes later, Mount Olive stretched the advantage to 3-0 with a second goal by Acevedo after she scored off a rebound from an initial save by the goalkeeper.
Gildner collected the win between the post after recording one save in 75-plus minutes of action. Graduate student
Mikaela Lawler also tallied a save after closing out the final minutes of the contest.
The Trojans concluded the match with a 34-4 shooting advantage and held a 12-1 lead in corner kicks on Saturday.
Mount Olive will host its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 18, against Shaw in non-conference play at Amon Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
