MOUNT OLIVE (May 10) – The University of Mount men's track & field program hit one NCAA provisional standard and set five personal-best marks while competing at the Mount Olive First Chance meet held at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Friday.
In the hammer throw, the Trojans featured three student-athletes, who all established personal records during the final week ahead of selections for the NCAA Championships. Senior Dorian Tolbert delivered the top mark in the Southeast Region and the Conference Carolinas with an NCAA provisional distance of 58.71 meters to finish second overall. Fellow senior Alex Smith-Fort'e placed third with a toss of 56.76 meters on his first attempt while junior Micah Harrison finished sixth overall with a mark of 53.32 meters.
Freshman Timothy Richardson produced a career-best time in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.84 seconds to place second overall, which is the fastest mark in the Conference Carolinas this season.
Fellow freshman Sigursteinn Asgeirsson established a new personal record of 16.37 meters to place second overall in the shot put while improving his league-best distance in the event
In the discus, Harrison recorded a third-place finish with a toss of 43.73 meters on his final attempt on Friday. Smith-Fort'e finished fourth overall with a distance of 43.58 meters while sophomore Tyrese Lavender placed fifth with a mark of 43.46 meters.
Freshman Ryan Wilson-McCoy earned the individual crown in the triple jump with a leap of 14.52 meters.
Senior Kamden Johnson placed second overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.74 meters.
Junior Brian Saul competed in the 400 meters and crossed the line in 48.71 seconds to finish second overall.
Fellow junior Riley Willcox registered a time of 1:57.78 in the 800 meters to take second place.
Mount Olive returns to Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex, tomorrow, Saturday, May 11, for the Mount Olive Final Qualifier, starting at 11 a.m.
