GOLDSBORO, N.C. (April 9) – Sophomore Matthew Richardson registered a third-place finish on Tuesday afternoon, as the University of Mount Olive men's golf team finished runner-up at The Trojan hosted at the Walnut Creek Country Club.

The Trojans carded an 11-over 875 (295-283-297) behind a trio of golfers in the top 20 overall on the individual leaderboard. Barton claimed the event title after firing an impressive 19-under 845 (276-281-288) and featured the individual champion. St. Thomas Aquinas rounded out the top three with a 15-over 879 (288-282-307) during the two-day event.

Richardson finished with a final score of one-under 215 (72-68-75) to earn a third-place finish. He fired a four-under 68 during the second round while recording three birdies and an eagle. Richardson completed the three-round event with one eagle, 10 birdies, and 33 pars.

Sophomore Rasmus Ronnberg tied for ninth overall with a four-over 220 (75-69-76) while producing 11 birdies and 29 pars. He carded a three-under 69 during the second round behind six birdies. Graduate student Cade Hancock placed 16th in a field of nearly 70 golfers after carding a six-over 222 (74-73-75) with eight birdies and 34 pars.

Sophomore Shawn Benson tied for 23rd overall with a score of eight-over 224 (77-73-74) behind nine birdies and 29 pars. Fellow sophomore Gabriel Ekholm leaped 11 spots on the individual leaderboard during the final day to tie for 26th overall with 34 pars, four birdies, and one eagle.

Additionally, the Trojans featured a second team, which finished 10th in the team standings after carding a 74-over 938 (311-312-315). Sophomore Max Lindblad led the team and tied for fifth overall with a two-over 218 (72-73-73) while recording a team-leading 15 birdies. Junior Edvin Perman tied for 17th overall after posting a score of seven-over 223 (73-74-76) with 11 birdies and 26 pars. Senior Preston Patterson placed 56th overall at The Trojan with a 31-over 247 (85-81-81) behind 21 pars and three birdies. Fellow senior David Hoermann finished 59th with a score of 34-over 250 (81-84-85) while recording 24 pars and one birdie.

Barton sophomore Ryan Jahr earned individual medalist honors after carding a 14-over 202 (64-69-69) and finished with a tournament-high 17 birdies.

UMO is idle for nearly two weeks before returning for the Conference Carolinas Championship, beginning April 21 in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
