GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 6) – Senior
Kamden Johnson made history on Saturday afternoon by setting a new school record in the high jump, as the Trojans placed second overall at the Bill Carson Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
Behind five event wins, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program finished second in the team standings with 190 points. UNCW claimed the team title with 217 points while East Carolina and NC State rounded out the four-team event.
Johnson set a new Mount Olive record in the high jump on Saturday after clearing 2.03 meters, while also setting the second-best mark in Conference Carolinas this season. He shattered a nearly decade-old record which was previously held by Angus Sinclair. Additionally, Johnson finished second in the long jump with a season-best distance of 7.10 meters, which sits second in the league.
In the hammer throw, the Trojans scored 32 of a possible 39 points, including featuring the event champion. Senior
Alex Smith-Fort'e matched a career-best toss of 55.69 meters in the hammer to earn the event crown while also setting the top mark in the Conference Carolinas. Senior
Dorian Tolbert finished second overall with a distance of 52.28 meters, while junior
Israel Long placed fourth with a season-best mark of 49.81 meters. Freshman
Matthew Heywood registered a fifth-place finish after a toss of 49.18 meters and junior
Micah Harrison placed sixth with a distance of 47.65 meters.

Christopher Kirksey delivered an event win after posting a time of 3:20.36, which ranks fifth in the league this season.
In the triple jump, freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy produced a season-best mark of 14.67 meters on his third attempt to place first overall, which sits atop the Conference Carolinas this season. Freshman
Princeton Loch placed third overall with a distance of 13.48 meters while sophomore
Josh Manning hit the league mark with a jump of 13.45 meters. Fellow sophomore
Kavon Poindexter also reached the conference standard with a mark of 12.97 meters.
Freshman
Zacharie Fedelus claimed the event victory in the long jump with a career-best mark of 7.10 meters on his fifth attempt, which ranks second in the conference this season. Manning hit the qualifying standard with a distance of 6.83 meters to place fourth, while Wilson-McCoy also hit the conference standard with a mark of 6.62 meters to finish fifth.
Freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson recorded a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.78 meters, while teammate
Adam Turner placed fourth with a toss of 13.05 meters.
Junior
Riley Willcox improved his league qualifying mark in the 800 meters after crossing the line with a time of 1:58.77 to finish second overall.
Additionally, in the high jump, Poindexter finished second overall after clearing 1.95 meters and Manning placed fourth with a mark of 1.90 meters.
In the discus, sophomore
Tyrese Lavender placed third overall with a distance of 44.39 meters while Smith-Fort'e finished fifth with a toss of 42.94 meters. Junior
Nicholas Cloud registered a sixth-place finish in the event with a mark of 41.32 meters.
Junior
Aman Tsegay hit the conference standard in the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:07.23 to finish fifth.
Richardson crossed the line with a time of 15.08 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles setting a league mark and the fourth-best time in UMO history.
In the 400 meters, Kirksey placed fourth with a time of 49.10 seconds while Saul recorded a mark of 49.55 seconds to finish fifth.
Mount Olive will host the Trojan Relays next week on Friday, April 12, at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
