MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 27) – After featuring two major award winners and seven conference champions, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program earned a tenth-straight Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship while competing at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Freshman
Timothy Richardson was named the Freshman of the Year by the league coaches after scoring 30 points for the Trojans toward the team standings. On Saturday, he delivered an event win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.60 seconds before being crowned the champion in the 400-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 54.26 seconds. He also posted fourth-place finishes as part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Head Coach
Earl Graves was voted the Coach of the Year for a fourth consecutive season following a dominant performance over the weekend.
The Trojans scored 135.5 points on the final day of the league meet while scoring in 16 of a possible 20 events to finish first overall with 185.5 points. Mount Olive set one school record, three NCAA provisional marks, and one meet record at the league meet. UNC Pembroke placed second in the team standings with 149.5 points while Belmont Abbey finished third with 95 points.
Freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson produced a meet record in the shot put with a first-place finish following a toss of 16.18 meters on his third attempt.
Fellow freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy set a new Mount Olive record while competing in the triple jump. He reached the NCAA provisional mark with a distance of 14.89 meters on his final attempt of the event to secure the individual crown.
Sophomore
Tyrese Lavender captured the event win in the discus on Saturday following a career-best toss of 49.64 meters on his second attempt.
Junior
Brian Saul registered a career-best time and a first-place finish in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 48.28 seconds.
