SNOW HILL, N.C. (April 23) – Behind three golfers in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, the Trojans placed second overall in the team standings on Tuesday while competing at the Conference Carolinas Championship hosted at the Cutter Creek Golf Club.
The University of Mount Olive men's golf program delivered a six-over 294 in the final round to finish runner-up with a 32-over 896 (303-299-294). Mount Olive records their highest finish since 2021, which is the last time the Trojans claimed the league crown. Barton captured back-to-back conference titles after winning by 35-stroke with a score of three-under 861 (295-290-276). Belmont Abbey placed third overall in the team standings after carding a 36-over 900 (301-302-397).
Sophomore Rasmus Ronnberg tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard with a five-over 221 (72-75-74) and earned all-tournament honors after placing among the top 10. Following the three-day event, he led the team and tied for fifth in the field with 10 birdies while converting 31 pars. Ronnberg closed out the final round on Tuesday by playing the back nine at one-under 35.
Fellow sophomore Matthew Richardson and graduate student Cade Hancock tied for 12th overall with an eight-over 224 after competing in 54 holes at Cutter Creek. Richardson leaped six positions in the final round after carding a one-under 71 with four birdies and 11 pars. He finished the event second on the team with 35 pars and seven birdies. Hancock jumped one spot on the individual leaderboard after shooting an even-par 72 with 14 pars and two birdies. He led the field of nearly 50 golfers with 39 pars while playing the par-three holes at a combined one-under.
Junior Edvin Perman tied for 22nd place with a score of 13-over 229 (76-74-79) behind 33 pars, four birdies, and one eagle. Over the three-day competition, he shot a combined three-under while playing the par-five holes. Sophomore Shawn Benson finished in a tie for 36th overall after carding an 18-over 234 (80-77-77) with 28 pars and six birdies.
Three Barton players finished tied for the individual lead at one-under 215 in Harrison Wierse (74-72-69), Ryan Jahr (73-72-70), and Kris Jackson (73-72-70). Wierse took home individual medalist honors by winning the playoff between the three teammates.
