SNOW HILL, N.C. (April 22) – The University of Mount Olive men's golf team leaped into second place in the team standings following the second round of play at the Conference Carolinas Championship, which is being held at Cutter Creek Golf Club.
The Trojans carded a score of 11-over 299 during the second day of competition to move up into second place with a 26-over 602 (303-299) while featuring four golfers in the top 20. Barton holds a significant 17-stroke lead at nine-over 585 (295-290) after shooting the lowest round of the event with a two-over 290 on Monday. Belmont Abbey rounded out the top three in the team standings with a score of 27-over 603 (301-302).
Sophomore Rasmus Ronnberg remains in the hunt for individual medalist honors after posting a three-over 75 to sit fifth overall with a score of three-over 147 (72-75). He registered an impressive five birdies with seven pars during the second round. Ronnberg is tied for second in the field with seven birdies while playing the par-fives at a combined three-under.
Junior Edvin Perman remained in a tie for ninth after shooting a two-over 74 behind 12 pars, one birdie, and an eagle on the par four, 329-yard, 12th hole. After 36 holes, he holds a score of six-over 150 (76-74) and is the only player to make an eagle at the league tournament.
Graduate student Cade Hancock advanced one position into a tie for 13th place after carding a three-over 75 with 13 pars and one birdie. He maintains a score of eight-over 152 (77-75) while ranking fourth in the field with 25 pars. Sophomore Matthew Richardson jumped three places into a tie for 18th with a score of nine-over 153 (78-75) while playing the front nine on Monday at an even-par 36. Sophomore Shawn Benson climbed three spots to tie for 30th overall with a score of 13-over 157 (80-77) after converting eight pars and three birdies in round two.
Barton sophomore Ryan Jahr and senior Kris Jackson hold the tournament lead at one-over 145 after shooting identical scores on both days.
Mount Olive closes out play at the Conference Carolinas Championship tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23, with a tee time in the third round at approximately 9:00 a.m.
