COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 20) – In a highly competitive field, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program delivered several season-best marks on Saturday while competing at the USC Open.
In the hammer throw, senior
Alex Smith-Fort'e reached the podium with a third-place finish following a toss of 53.65 meters on his second attempt of the event. Fellow senior
Dorian Tolbert registered a sixth-place finish with a distance of 53.15 meters. Junior
Micah Harrison produced a career-best mark of 50.80 meters to finish eighth overall, which ranks seventh all-time in program history.
Freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson posted a season-best mark in the shot put with a toss of 16.27 meters to place fourth. He continues to boast the top mark in the Conference Carolinas while sitting second in the Southeast Region.
In the high jump, senior
Kamden Johnson finished fourth overall after clearing 2.00 meters while sophomore
Kavon Poindexter also finished fourth with a season-best mark of 2.00 meters, which is tied for third all-time at UMO.
The 4x100 relay team of freshman
Khairi Steadman, sophomore
Jason Hart, junior
Brian Saul, and junior
Christopher Kirksey posted a season-best time of 41.71 seconds, which sits fourth in the Conference Carolinas this season.
Freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy produced a seventh-place finish in the triple jump after leaping 14.08 meters in a field of several Division I competitors.
The Trojans return to action next weekend on April 26-27 at the Conference Carolinas Championships, which will be hosted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
