SNOW HILL, N.C. (April 21) – Sophomore Rasmus Ronnberg is tied for first place after firing an even-par 72 in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship on Sunday, as the Trojans are tied for third in the team standings with a trio of golfers in the top 15 overall.

The University of Mount Olive men's golf program registered a score of 15-over 303 in the opening round while competing at the Cutter Creek Golf Club. Barton, the defending league champion, holds a six-stroke lead after carding a seven-over 295 with all five golfers among the top 10. Belmont Abbey sits second in the team standings with a score of 13-over 301 while UMO and Emmanuel are tied for third.

Ronnberg tied for first overall following the initial 18 holes of play after recording a score of even-par 72 on Sunday. He led the field of 45 golfers with 14 pars while converting two birdies. Ronnberg had an impressive performance on the back nine after shooting one-under 35 with a birdie on the par-four 14th hole.

Junior Edvin Perman fired a score of four-over 76 with one birdie and 12 pars to tie for ninth overall on the individual leaderboard. He made his only birdie of the day on the par five, 575-yard 18th. Graduate student Cade Hancock tied for 14th place after shooting a five-over 77 behind 12 pars and a birdie on the par four 12th.

Sophomore Matthew Richardson produced a six-over 78 and sits in an eight-way tie for 21st while competing at the league tournament. He made back-to-back birdies in the opening round on the par four 1st hole and the par-five, 560-yard 2nd. Sophomore Shawn Benson is tied for 33rd overall after posting a score of eight-over 80 with two birdies and nine pars.

Belmont Abbey senior Jacob Ferrari sits in a tie for first place on the individual leaderboard after shooting an even-par 72 with three birdies and 12 pars.

The Trojans continue to play at the Conference Carolinas Championships tomorrow, Monday, April 22, with tee times in the second round set for approximately 9:30 a.m.
