MOUNT OLIVE (March 5) – In a top-25 matchup, the No. 24 University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse program was unable to overcome a first-half deficit in a 17-5 loss to No. 20 Lynn in non-conference play at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Tuesday.
With the loss, the Trojans fall to 3-2 this season with both losses coming to nationally ranked opponents from the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Meanwhile, Lynn improves to 4-1 while securing three wins on a week-long road trip down the east coast.
In the first quarter, the Fighting Knights netted a pair of goals in the initial seven-plus minutes before graduate student
Madalyn DeGarlais responded with a man-up goal, her third of the season, at the 3:35 mark to cut into the deficit, 2-1. Lynn countered with another goal in the final minutes of the first to hold a 3-1 advantage following the opening 15 minutes. In the second, Lynn scored six unanswered goals to stretch their lead to 9-1 at halftime while limiting UMO to five shots in the quarter.

Jane Hobbs suffered the loss (0-1) in her first start of the season after yielding nine goals in the first half while collecting seven saves. Junior
Anna James played the entire second half and totaled six saves while surrendering eight goals in 30 minutes.
Mount Olive returns to non-conference play on Sunday, March 10, when it hosts UVA Wise at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex at 1 p.m.
