WALLACE, N.C. (March 6) – In a highly competitive field featuring several Division I programs, the Trojans registered an 11th-place finish in the two-day River Landing Classic hosted by UNCW.
The University of Mount Olive women's golf program recorded a 126-over 990 (327-331-332) to place 11th in the team standings on
Tuesday. James Madison secured the invitational title after firing a 17-over 881 (293-289-299) with a trio of golfers in the top 10 overall. Elon climbed three positions on the final day to finish second overall with a 22-over 886 (296-303-287), while East Carolina placed third with a final score of 23-over 887 (296-296-295).
Junior
Victoria Morelli led the team and leaped five positions in the final round to tie for 50th after carding a 24-over 240 (77-84-79) with 29 pars and a team-leading three birdies while playing River Landing. Freshman
Valentina Agostino tied for 54th overall with a 26-over 242 (80-75-87) behind 30 pars and two birdies while sophomore
Violette Daudin finished tied for 63rd by recording a score of 31-over 547 (86-81-80). Freshman
Claire Beitel carded a 50-over 266 (89-91-86) in a 72nd-place finish and fellow freshman
Lucie Levet was forced to withdraw from the event before the third round.
James Madison sophomore Maria Atwood captured the individual title by two strokes after carding a one-under 215 (69-72-74) with 11 birdies.
Mount Olive will be idle for a week before returning to action on March 11-12 at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate hosted by Wingate in Monroe, North Carolina.
