OKATIE, S.C. (March 26) – With three golfers among the top 15 on the individual leaderboard, the University of Mount Olive men's golf team placed fifth overall while competing at the Oldfield Classic, hosted by USC Beaufort.
Mount Olive carded a 29-over 893 (295-302-296) and climbed one spot in the team standings during the final round to place fifth. USC Beaufort collected the team title by 10 strokes after firing a four-over 868 (293-287-288) while featuring a trio of golfers in the top 10. Drexel, a Division I program, finished second overall with a 14-over 878 (291-295-292), and St. Thomas (FL) rounded out the top three with 21-over 885 (306-288-291).
Sophomore
Matthew Richardson leaped five positions on the individual leaderboard on the final day to finish tied for fifth with a score of even-par 216 (70-76-70). He totaled a team-best 35 pars over three rounds of play while adding nine birdies and an eagle on the par-five 11th hole. During the competition, Richardson played the par-five holes at an impressive seven-under, which tied for best at the tournament.
Fellow sophomore
Rasmus Ronnberg jumped a pair of slots on Tuesday to tie for 14th overall with a score of six-over 222 (72-76-74) while playing at the Oldfield Golf Club. He was one of two golfers in the field to card two eagles, which he accomplished on the par-five 8th and 11th holes. Ronnberg registered 27 pars and 11 birdies while playing the par-five holes at a combine five-under.
Junior
Gabriel Ekholm also tied for 14th at the Oldfield Classic after recording a final score of six-over 222 (70-76-76) over 54 holes of golf. He paced the team with 11 birdies, including seven made in the opening round, while also converting 30 pars.

Edvin Perman and graduate student
Cade Hancock tied for 54th overall in a field of nearly 80 golfers in South Carolina. Perman moved up eight positions during the final round and finished with a 21-over 237 (83-78-76) behind 20 pars, nine birdies, and an eagle. Hancock carded a 21-over 237 (86-74-77) with 24 pars and seven birdies.
Freshman Ellis Bright earned the individual title by five strokes with an eight-under 208 (68-72-68) and made a tournament-best 16 birdies.
The Trojans return to the course on April 8-9 at The Trojan, which will be hosted at Walnut Creek Country Club.
