PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 27) – After firing a three-under 67 in the final round, sophomore
Rasmus Ronnberg secured a top-20 finish, as the Trojans competed at the Spring Bulldog Clash at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
The University of Mount Olive men's golf team leaped two positions on the final day to place 12th overall in the team standings with a score of 26-over 866 (295-290-281) in a field of 22 programs. The host Barton captured the tournament title by two strokes with an impressive one-under 839 (279-276-284) with four players among the top-25 overall on the individual leaderboard. Newberry and Columbus State tied for second overall with a one-over 841.
Ronnberg captured his sixth top-20 finish of the 2023-24 season after tying for 19th overall on the individual leaderboard with a score of two-over 212 (75-70-67) while tallying one eagle, nine birdies, and 33 pars over two days. In the final round, he climbed 23 spots on the leaderboard with an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole and three birdies on the back nine. Ronnberg carded a score of six-under while playing on the trio of par 5s at Caledonia.
Junior
Edvin Perman tied for 61st overall after jumping four positions on Tuesday to finish 10-over 220 (69-79-72) behind seven birdies and 33 pars. Fellow sophomore
Shawn Benson also leaped 23 spots after carding six birdies over the final 18 holes. He tied for 70th place with a team-high 11 birdies while adding 25 pars.
Graduate student
Cade Hancock and sophomore
Matthew Richardson tied for 83rd overall while competing in South Carolina. Hancock fired a 14-over 224 (75-71-78) with four birdies and 35 pars, while Richardson posted a 14-over 224 (79-73-72) behind four birdies and a team-high 36 pars.
Shorter sophomore Blake Henriques claimed the individual medalist honors with a 10-under 200 (64-70-66) with 18 birdies over 54 holes.
The Trojans are idle for nearly two weeks before competing at the Laker Spring Shootout, hosted by Mercyhurst, on Mar. 8-9 in Jackson Springs, North Carolina.
