FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. (Feb. 23) – The University of Mount Olive women's wrestling program qualified a school-record seven individuals for nationals and placed third overall in the team standings in its second-ever appearance at National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Coalition (NCWWC) Region II Championships, host by Emmanuel on Friday.

As a team, the Trojans finished third overall with 128.0 points in the team standings in a field of eight teams. No. 3 ranked King secured the regional championship after winning eight weight classes while qualifying seven wrestlers for nationals. No. 20 Emmanuel finished runner-up with 146.5 points and six national qualifiers.

Junior Samantha Miller became the first-ever regional champion in team history after posting an unblemished 4-0 record with a trio of falls. Following two seasons as a program, the Trojans have 10 national qualifiers while featuring one All-American in their brief stint.

Miller claimed the individual title at 109 and a spot at nationals with a 4-0 mark on Friday. She registered a 48-second fall in the first period over Giavanna Ablonsky of Emmanuel before producing a 10-0 tech fall against Shelby Fugate of Huntingdon. In the semifinals, Miller recorded a fall over Alyssa Guardiola to advance to the finals. In the first-place match, she upset the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the country Danielle Garcia of King with a fall in the second period.

Sophomore Nia Miranda booked her spot in Iowa with a runner-up finish in the 155-weight class. Following an opening-round bye, she registered a 35-second fall in the quarterfinals over Savannah Pitts of Huntingdon before delivering a 6-0 decision versus Molly Keller of Emory & Henry. In the championship match, Miranda was pinned by No. 2 ranked Cheyenne Bowman of King in the first round to place second overall.

Freshman Angelica Steffy clinched her place at nationals with a 3-1 record at 136 while competing in Georgia. In the quarterfinals, she posted a fall over Olivia Waller of Presbyterian before suffering a loss to Gianna Anaya of Emmanuel by a 10-0 tech fall. In the consolation bracket, Steffy produced a fall in the first period over Caitlyn Ash of Bluefield State. In the third-place bout, she delivered a convincing 27-second pin against Raya Carpenter of Huntingdon.

Additionally, four Trojans joined the list of national qualifiers after placing fourth in their respective weight class, including freshman Jeulenea Khang (101), freshman Ayonna McNeill (116), freshman Brielle Bibla, and sophomore Jada Arnold (191).

The NCWWC National Championships will take place in two weeks on March 8-9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
