HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 20) – Junior
Victoria Morelli tied for 11th place on Tuesday, as the University of Mount Olive women's golf team finished 14th overall at the Battle at Hilton Head.
The Trojans carded an 81-over 657 (328-329) to place 14th out of 18 programs in the field, including six teams from the Conference Carolinas. No. 25 ranked Oklahoma Christian claimed the tournament title by nine strokes after shooting a 28-over 604 (311-293) with three golfers among the top 15 of the individual standings. No. 19 Wingate placed second overall with a 37-over 613 (301-312) in the team standings while Montevallo finished third with a 42-over 618 (312-306).
Morelli led Mount Olive and captured her first top-15 finish of the spring campaign after posting a score of nine-over 153 (76-77) to tie for 11th place. She registered a team-high four birdies and 21 pars during the two-day competition at the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes.
Freshman
Lucie Levet tied for 42nd overall after carding an eight-over 162 (82-80) with a pair of birdies and 18 pars over two rounds. Fellow freshman
Valentina Agostino placed 75th with a 26-over 170 while finishing second on the team with 19 pars. Sophomore
Violette Daudin finished three spots back in a tie for 78th place with a 29-over 173 (83-90), while freshman
Claire Beitel rounded out the team with a 36-over 180 (91-89) to finish 87th overall.
Oklahoma Christian sophomore Maria Torres earned the individual title with a five-stroke victory after firing a four-under 140 (75-65) with seven birdies in her final round.
The Trojans will be idle for two weeks before competing at the River Landing Classic hosted by UNCW in Wallace, North Carolina.
