NCAA announces long-term agreement for Division II Baseball Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 9) – The NCAA officially announced a long-term extension on Monday afternoon for the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship to remain at the USA National Training Complex in Cary NC through 2038. The University of Mount Olive and Cary will continue to serve as the hosts. In addition, the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance will continue to provide local host support for the baseball championship.

The Division II Baseball Championship finals have been hosted in Cary for 14 of the past 15 events, with the next two championships already scheduled to be held in Cary. In early October, the NCAA announced an extension through 2028, but this announcement adds another 10 years to the hosting partnership. The agreement will see the Division II Baseball Championship finals remain in Cary through the 2037-38 championship season. It is believed to be just the fourth-ever long-term contract in Division II. The new agreement ensures Mount Olive and Cary will become the longest-hosting partnership in NCAA Division II baseball history.

"The NCAA's decision to enter a long-term hosting agreement for the DII baseball championship is virtually unprecedented," said Tournament Co-Director and former Mount Olive Vice President of Athletics Jeff Eisen. "It is a testament to the efforts of the UMO Athletics and Cary's USA Baseball NTC staff, as well as the support of our partners, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and USA Baseball. It is a great point of pride for UMO to be the long-term co-host for this outstanding event."

In recognition of the extension, Cary has made significant commitments to capital improvements, including the recent completion of the USA Baseball office and training facility, and will provide increased marketing efforts to enhance the championship experience for student-athletes and fans.

"The University of Mount Olive is excited and honored to work in partnership with Cary on this long-term agreement for hosting the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship at the USA Baseball National Training Complex," said UMO Director of Athletics Joey Higginbotham. "Former UMO Vice President of Athletics Jeff Eisen deserves recognition for his work to make the 'The Road to Cary' a destination that programs across the country will strive to reach for the next 12 years. Mount Olive looks forward to continuing as the co-host of this first-class championship event and making this partnership the longest in NCAA Division II Baseball history."

As the host institution, Mount Olive is involved with all aspects of planning and administering the championship. UMO personnel handle the media coordination and sports medicine duties during the event.

The 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship is set to be hosted May 30-June 7, 2025.
