Shawn Benson fired an impressive two-under 70 in the final round on Tuesday to earn a top-20 finish, as the Trojans competed at The Citrus Intercollegiate hosted by Nova Southeastern.
The University of Mount Olive men's golf program finished 16th overall with a 71-over 935 (329-303-303) in their final competition of the fall season. No. 8 ranked Lincoln Memorial captured the tournament title by six strokes with a score of four-over 868 (293-284-291) behind four players in the top 10 overall. Rollins placed second after carding a 10-over 874 (297-291-286) and Cameron rounded out the top three with a score of 23-over 887 (289-294-304).
Benson earned his highest finish of the fall after tying for 18th overall with a final score of eight-over 224 (81-73-70). He climbed a staggering 36 spots on the individual leaderboard during the third round while tallying a team-high eight birdies and 33 pars. On Tuesday, Benson totaled five birdies during his final round and played the back nine at two-under.
Freshman
Lavrans Broen Holm jumped 21 positions on the individual leaderboard to tie for 42nd overall with a 12-over 228 (81-75-72) behind two eagles, seven birdies, and 26 pars in three rounds of play. He was the lone player to make two eagles in the tournament, both coming on the par-five third hole at 580 yards.
Senior
Edvin Perman finished with a 22-over 238 (80-77-81) to tie for 70th while converting five birdies and 30 pars. Freshman
Oscar Lönnqvist registered an 80th-place finish in Florida after carding a 31-over 247 (87-78-82) with three birdies and 28 pars. Junior
Matthew Richardson rounded out the team in a tie for 81st with a score of 32-over 248 (89-79-80) after making one birdie and 27 pars.
Rollins senior RJ Glod claimed individual medalist honors by two strokes after shooting a four-under 212 (72-69-71) behind one eagle and 10 birdies.
