Yaneli Sanchez, the Trojans claimed a 1-0 victory at Barton in Conference Carolinas divisional play on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team improves to 4-2-3 overall behind a 3-2-1 mark in conference action. The Trojans secured their first win at the Barton Athletic Complex since 2021 while the last three meetings have been decided by one goal. Meanwhile, Barton drops to 4-3-2 this season with a 1-2-1 record in league play.
Mount Olive established an early 1-0 advantage just 32 seconds into the contest as Sanchez scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from junior
Addison Dangler. The Trojans followed up with three additional shots in the initial 12-plus minutes of the match as they controlled possession. The Bulldogs nearly found the back of the net at the 24:29 mark after Jenessa Gray chipped the ball over the keeper but the shot hit the side-netting. At halftime, UMO held a 5-2 edge in shots while both sides registered a corner kick.
In the second half, each squad totaled two shots in the opening 15-plus minutes, as the Trojans held a one-goal lead. The Bulldogs managed three shots and a corner kick at the midway point of the half before Mount Olive sealed the win after maintaining possession for the final 10 minutes of the match.

Samantha Gildner produced a shutout victory after collecting two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Mount Olive out-shot Barton by a 14-7 margin while also finishing with a 3-2 lead in corner kicks.
The Trojans continue divisional play on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they host UNCP at Amon Field, starting at 7 p.m.
