LEXINGTON, Va. (Jan. 27) – Senior
Kamden Johnson and freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy each broke their own school records on Saturday and improved their NCAA marks, as the Trojans totaled three wins on the final day of competition at the VMI Invitational.
Johnson for a consecutive week eclipsed the school record in the high jump after clearing 2.07 meters (6-9.50 feet) to claim first place in the event. He is tied for 21st overall in NCAA Division II in the high jump while remaining atop the Southeast Region.
Wilson-McCoy surpassed his previous program record in just his third appearance with the Trojans after reaching 14.87 meters (48-9.50 feet) in the triple jump to earn medalist honors. He ranks third in the Southeast Region and paces the Conference Carolinas in the event.
In the shot put, freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson delivered a first-place finish following a season-best toss of 15.74 meters (51-7.75 feet) on his final attempt, which ranks second all-time at Mount Olive. He sits second in the Southeast Region and paces the Conference Carolinas in the event this year. Junior
Nicholas Cloud placed fourth overall with a distance of 14.69 meters (48-2.50 feet), while senior
Dorian Tolbert finished eighth with a mark of 14.46 meters (47-5.25 feet), which ranks sixth all-time at UMO.
Junior
Christopher Kirksey recorded a season-best time of 48.80 seconds in the 400 meters to place second overall, which ranks third all-time in program history. He continues to boast the top time in the Conference Carolinas this year.
Sophomore
Jason Hart produced a third-place finish in the 200 meters after crossing the line with a time of 21.81 seconds, which is the fastest time in the conference this indoor campaign.
Fellow sophomore
Brendin Marks reached the league qualifying standard in the triple jump after placing seventh overall with a distance of 13.88 meters (45-6.50 feet).
Sophomore
Kavon Poindexter posted a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 1.87 meters (6-1.50 feet).
Junior
Riley Willcox delivered a time of 1:57.30 to finish third while competing in the 800 meters to establish a league standard, which ranks sixth all-time at Mount Olive.
The 4x400 relay team of Kirksey, freshman
Timothy Richardson, graduate student
Brian Saul, and Hart posted the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas this indoor season after recording a time of 3:24.03 to place third overall.
In his first appearance in the mile this year, junior
Aman Tsegay registered a time of 4:36.90 at the VMI Invite.
The Trojans will return to action on Feb. 2-3 in Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete at the Liberty Open.
