FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. (Jan. 21) – Junior Samantha Miller and sophomore Nia Miranda became the first UMO women's wrestlers in program history to capture individual titles in their respective weight classes in tournament competition, as the Trojans featured five individuals on the podium at the Robert Horton Open hosted by Emmanuel on Sunday.

The University of Mount Olive women's wrestling program finished third in the team standings with 111.5 points behind a pair of individual champions. The Trojans featured 18 wrestlers in Georgia and registered 28 victories, including 18 falls, with nearly 30 teams in attendance. In just the second year of the program, Miller and Miranda garnered the first titles in an individual tournament at Mount Olive.

In the 109-weight class, Miller posted a 3-0 record while competing in the Peach State to earn the individual championship. Following an opening-round bye, she delivered a first-period fall in just one minute over Grace York of Presbyterian before registering another fall against Gabrielle Medeiros of Campbellsville. In the first-place match, Miller produced a dominant performance with a 10-0 tech fall versus Giavanna Ablonsky of Emmanuel.

Miranda finished with a 4-0 mark at 155, including three straight wins via fall, to claim first place overall. After a bye, she posted an 8-0 decision against Jocelyn Yepez of Emmanuel before recording a fall over Aalijah Pineda in the quarterfinals. Miranda registered a first-period pin versus Molly Keller of Emory & Henry to advance to the championship. She delivered a comeback victory in the first-place match with a fall over Josselinne Campos of Lindsey Wilson.

At 101, freshman Jeulenea Khang produced a 2-1 record and placed second overall in her respective weight class. In the quarterfinals, she battled to a 4-0 decision against Lynnlie Rountree of Emmanuel before posting an 8-5 decision against Kiley McNerney of Campbellsville. In the championship match, Khang suffered a 10-0 loss via tech fall to No. 10 ranked Chiara Barbieri of Presbyterian to finish as the runner-up.

Sophomore Jada Arnold finished with a 2-1 mark while competing in the 191-weight class on Sunday. Following a first-round bye, she produced a 10-0 tech fall over Katherine Meza of UCF before recording a pin versus Shanna Archuelta of Emmanuel in the semifinals. Arnold fell by a 10-0 tech fall in the first-place match to Ella Beam of Presbyterian to place second overall.

In the 130-weight class, freshman Brielle Bibla registered a 3-1 record and finished third overall. After a bye, she delivered a first-period fall against Jewelysa Funakoshi of Emmanuel but fell to No. 9 ranked Cassia Zammit of Presbyterian in the semifinals by 11-0 tech fall. In the consolation bracket, Bibla earned a win by fall versus Lillie Costilla of Frostburg State before claiming a win in the third-place match over Olivia Messerly of Campbellsville with a pin.

The Trojans return to individual competition at the Southern Virginia Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Buena Vista, Virginia.
