SALEM, Va. (Jan. 20) – Seniors
Kamden Johnson and
Alex Smith-Fort'e each produced an NCAA Provisional Standards, as the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program registered four event wins at the Finn Pincus Invitational in Virginia.
Johnson eclipsed the Mount Olive record and reached the NCAA standard in the high jump after clearing 2.06 meters (6-9.00 feet) to claim first place on Friday evening. He ranks 20th in Division II in the event while pacing the Southeast Region and the Conference Carolinas this indoor campaign. Additionally, Johnson improved his conference qualifying mark in the long jump with a distance of 6.96 meters (22-10.00 feet) to earn a first-place finish. He still holds the top mark in the league and sits second in the region in the long jump.
Smith-Fort'e established an NCAA mark in the weight throw and captured the individual crown with a personal-best toss of 18.38 meters (60-3.75 feet) on his second attempt. He is the only athlete to post an NCAA standard in the Southeast Region in the event this year and holds the second-best mark in program history.
Junior
Christopher Kirksey registered a pair of podium finishes, including a victory in the 400 meters this weekend. He produced a personal record in the 400 meters after crossing the line with a time of 49.66 seconds, which is the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas. Kirksey also placed second overall in the triple jump with a distance of 13.27 meters (43-6.50 meters) to reach the league qualifying mark.

Dorian Tolbert placed second with a personal record of 16.69 meters (54-9.25 feet), which is the second-best mark in the conference and ranks fourth all-time at UMO. Junior
Micah Harrison recorded a third-place finish in the event with a toss of 16.19 meters (52-1.50 feet), while teammate
Israel Long finished fourth with a distance of 16.18 meters (53-1.00 feet). Freshman
Matthew Heywood registered a personal-best toss of 15.17 meters (49-9.25 feet) to place sixth overall and records the 10th-best mark in UMO history.
Sophomore
Brendin Marks reached the league qualifying standard in the long jump with a distance of 6.50 meters (21-4.00 feet) to place third while freshman
Princeton Loch finished fifth overall with a mark of 6.40 meters (21-0.00 feet). Sophomore
Zyshone White produced a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.40 meters (21-0.00 feet).
In the shot put, freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson hit the conference qualifying mark with a toss of 15.57 meters (51-1.00 feet) to place second overall in Virginia. He holds the top position in the Conference Carolinas in the event and third-best distance all-time at UMO. Junior
Nicholas Cloud finished third with a mark of 14.85 meters (48-8.75 feet), while Tolbert improved his qualifying mark with a distance of 13.84 meters (45-5.00 feet) to finish seventh overall. Harrison reached the league mark in the event with a toss of 13.33 meters (43-9.00 feet).
Freshman
Timothy Richardson improved his conference standard in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.47 seconds in the prelims before recording a second-place finish in the finals with a time of 8.51 seconds, which ranks fifth all-time at Mount Olive.
Junior
Riley Willcox posted a conference mark in the mile and the top time this season after crossing the line with a time of 4:21.68.
Loch produced a third-place finish in the triple jump after reaching 12.84 meters (42-1.50 feet) and freshman
Zacharie Fedelus placed fourth with a distance of 12.78 meters (41-11.25 feet).
Fellow freshman
Evan Hall placed fourth overall in 5000 meters with a time of 16:07.89.
Sophomore
Kavon Poindexter posted a fifth-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters.
Graduate student
Brian Saul placed seventh overall in the 400 meters with a time of 51.96 seconds.
UMO returns to action next weekend on Jan. 26-27 at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Virginia.
