LYNCHBURG, Va. (Jan. 12) – Freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy established an NCAA Provisional Standard in the triple jump for a consecutive meet and Mount Olive posted nine new conference qualifying standards while competing at The Burg Open hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
In the triple jump, Wilson-McCoy registered a distance of 14.57 meters to claim the event title in the opening meet of 2024. He continues to hold the second-best mark in the Southeast Region while ranking among the top 15 in the country in the event.
Senior
Kamden Johnson recorded a first-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.95 meters while continuing to hold the top mark in the Conference Carolinas this season. He also placed second overall with a mark of 6.95 meters in the long jump on Friday.
Sophomore
Jason Hart captured the individual title in the 200 meters after crossing the line with a time of 21.91 seconds in a field of over 40 competitors to improve his conference standard. In the 60-meter dash, Hart finished fifth overall with a time of 7.06 seconds to climb into the top seven of the league rankings.
Junior
Christopher Kirksey produced a second-place finish in the 200 meters to reach the conference qualifying standard with a personal best time of 22.03 seconds, which is the sixth-best all-time at UMO. Additionally, he hit the league standard in the long jump with a distance of 6.58 meters to place fourth overall.
Junior
Nicholas Cloud improved his Conference Carolinas mark in the shot put with a distance of 15.35 meters to place second overall in a field of nearly 30 competitors. Fellow senior
Dorian Tolbert reached the league standard with a mark of 13.67 meters in the event, which ranks sixth all-time at Mount Olive.
In the weight throw, senior
Alex Smith-Fort'e registered a second-place finish with a toss of 17.06 meters while competing in Virginia. Junior
Micah Harrison improved his conference qualifying mark with a personal-best distance of 16.39 meters to take fourth overall, while Tolbert improved his conference mark with a toss of 16.25 meters to finish fifth in the event. Junior
Israel Long produced a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.25 meters to improve his league standard. Freshman
Matthew Heywood climbed the conference qualifying list with a personal-best improvement of 14.90 meters to place eighth overall.
Sophomore
Kavon Poindexter finished fourth overall in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters. He posted a Conference Carolinas mark with a distance of 12.66 meters in the triple jump to place sixth overall.
Sophomore
Josh Manning reached the conference qualifying standard with a distance of 6.71 meters in the long jump to place third, while freshman
Princeton Loch finished eighth with a conference mark of 6.43 meters. Loch also placed sixth overall in the triple jump with a distance of 12.84 meters.
Junior
Riley Willcox established a Conference Carolinas mark with a time of 8:56.33 in the 3000 meters.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Timothy Richardson crossed the line with a time of 8.49 seconds in the prelims to qualify for the conference championship before placing third in the finals with a time of 8.50 seconds. Fellow freshman
Khairi Steadman hit the league mark with a time of 8.83 seconds in the prelims of the event.
Mount Olive returns to action next weekend at the Finn Pincus Invitational on Jan. 19-20 in Salem, Virginia.
