Ronnberg ties for fifth; Trojan finish fifth in Florida

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Sept. 26) – The University of Mount Olive men's golf team carded the lowest third-round score as a team on Tuesday to post a fifth-place finish at the 13th annual Jay Jennison Cup, hosted by Flagler.

The Trojans placed fifth in the team standings while playing at Slammer and Squire with a four-under 860 (287-293-280). Palm Beach Atlantic claimed the invitational title by six strokes with an impressive score of 23-under 841 (275-282-284) and featured four golfers in the top 20 overall Lenoir-Rhyne finished second with a 17-under 847 (285-276-286) and Lynn placed third at 14-under 850 (286-282-282).

Sophomore Rasmus Ronnberg tied for fifth overall in a field over nearly 75 golfers after firing an eight-under 208 (69-73-66) and was one of nine individuals to shoot five-under or better at the two-day event. He matched the lowest final round on Tuesday behind five birdies and one eagle to card a six-under 66. Ronnberg finished the tournament with 14 birdies and an eagle while knocking down 32 pars over three rounds of golf. He collected his second top-10 finish of the fall campaign.

Fellow sophomore Max Lindblad carded a one-under 215 (72-72-71) to tie for 20th while playing in the Sunshine State. He shot even-par over the initial two rounds of the event before hitting three birdies on the final day to card at 71. Lindblad recorded 12 birdies and 32 pars over 54 holes and has finished in the top 25 in all three events this fall.

Sophomore Shawn Benson tied for 24th overall with a two-over 218 (74-73-71) and registered an eagle on the par-five fourth to produce a 71 in the third round. He tallied four birdies, an eagle, and a remarkable 42 pars. Senior Edvin Perman delivered a nine-over 225 (72-81-72) to tie for 46th and registered two rounds at even-par. He finished three rounds of golf with eight birdies and 32 pars in Florida. Sophomore Jonas Arnstrom Bakker rounded out the group and tied for 54th place with a 12-over 228 (78-75-75) with five birdies and 36 pars.

Palm Beach Atlantic junior Trey Tesiero garnered medalist honors after winning a one-hole playoff and finished the event at 10-under 206 (65-71-70).

Mount Olive is idle for just over two weeks before returning to the course on Oct. 16-17 for the BC Fall Intercollegiate hosted by Barton at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
