NEWBERRY, S.C. (Sept. 23) – After coming back from a two-goal deficit, UMO came out victorious over the No. 9 Newberry Wolves in a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive field hockey team improves to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in league play. The Trojans remain undefeated in conference and secure their first ranked win of the year. Meanwhile, the Wolves experience their first loss of the season to fall to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
In the opening minutes of the match, Newberry was first to score at the 5:47 mark, 1-0. Trailing behind, Mount Olive only saw one shot on goal in the remainder of the first quarter. In the second quarter of the match, the Wolves found another scoring opportunity after being rewarded a penalty corner. At the 19:59 mark, Newberry extended the lead by two, 2-0. The Trojans took a 13-12 edge in shots and a 7-6 edge on penalty corners over the Wolves.
Mount Olive continues on the road as it faces Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4:00 p.m. in conference play.
