UMO competes at Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. (Sept. 15) – Competing in a field of nearly 140 runners, the University of Mount Olive women's cross country team featured three individuals in the Adidas XC Challenge at WakeMed Soccer Park on Friday evening.

Elon claimed the team title with 32 points behind four runners in the top 15 overall in the field. William & Mary placed second with 70 points and Richmond finished third out of 13 teams with 81 points.

Senior Celine Fleurilus paced the Trojans for a third-consecutive race and posted 21 minutes, 3.2 seconds over the five-kilometer race on Friday to place 95th overall. At the two-kilometer mark of the race, she posted a time of 8:29.1 and finished strong after leaping 13 positions to sit among the top 100 in a highly competitive field.

Sophomore Natalie Baldwin placed 103rd overall after crossing the line with a time of 22:01.3 after jumping seven slots in the standings over the final three kilometers of the race. Junior Caroline Allred registered a time of 25:32.3 and finished 120th overall while competing in Cary.

NC State freshman Leah Stephens competed unattached and cruised to the individual title by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 16:54.8. The Wolfpack are the two-time reigning NCAA Division I National Champions in women's cross country.

Mount Olive is idle for the next three weeks before competing at the Royal XC Challenge hosted by Queens on Oct. 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
