MOUNT OLIVE (May 13) – In the final weekend of the regular season ahead of nationals, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program competed at the Mount Olive First Chance and Multi at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Saturday.
Sophomore
Jaleal Hamlett established an NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump after setting a personal record of 14.77 meters to place second overall in the field. He continues to hold the top distance in the Conference Carolinas and sits fifth in the Southeast Region this year.
Senior
Joshua Faison secured the individual title in the discus throw with a toss of 54.05 meters on Saturday. He currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II with a mark of 56.05 meters, which was set in early April at Duke. Additionally, fellow senior
Dorian Tolbert placed third in the discus with a personal best of 45.94 meters.
Sophomore
Nicholas Cloud claimed first place in the shot put after setting a record of 15.97 meters, the second-best mark in program history. He also ranks second in the Southeast Region this year with his mark set this evening.
In the hammer throw, sophomore
Israel Long established a new personal record of 52.70 meters to take second place in the event. He continues to hold the fourth-best mark in the Southeast Region this season.
Senior
Justen Burnette finished second overall in a highly competitive field of 22 runners with a time of 20.88 seconds, which was just two hundredths off his season-best time. He currently sits 20th in Division II in the event with a mark of 20.86.
Sophomore
Riley Willcox placed first overall in the 5,000-meter run to close out the meet and set a personal-best and league standard time.
The Trojans return to the track tomorrow, Sunday, May 13, for the Mount Olive Final Qualifier at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex at 1 p.m.
