WILMINGTON, N.C. (Mar. 4) – The University of Mount Olive men's track & field team registered 17 Conference Carolinas qualifying marks, three first-place finishes, three NCAA provisional marks, and shattered two conference records on Saturday at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
Senior
Joshua Faison surpassed a pair of conference and school records in the initial outdoor meet of the year. In the shot put, he tossed a distance of 16.88 meters to eclipse his previous league record and take first place in the event. Faison also placed first overall in the discus throw with another conference record after posting a mark of 53.17 meters. Both distances achieved on Saturday were NCAA provisional marks and he is the two-time defending league champion in the events.
Sophomore
Jaleal Hamlett hit an NCAA Standard on Saturday in the triple jump after reaching 14.71 meters in the triple jump. Hamlett is the defending outdoor champion in the event and finished the indoor season first-team all-conference in the triple jump.
Additionally in the shot put, sophomore
Nicholas Cloud also qualified for the league championships after placing third in the event with a toss of 14.94 meters. Senior
Dorian Tolbert hit a conference qualifying mark with a distance of 13.32 meters.
In the discus throw, the Trojans also featured three more qualifiers after the record-setting performance from Faison. Sophomore
Alex Smith-Fort'e placed third after posting 46.90 meters, while Tolbert finished fourth following a mark of 43.82 meters. Sophomore
Israel Long reached the league standard after registering a toss of 39.69 meters.
Sophomore
Jeremiah Kimbrough qualified for the conference championship in the long jump with a mark of 6.76 meters to claim second overall in the event. Freshman
Josh Manning reached the league standard in the long jump with a distance of 6.53 meters, while also qualifying in the triple jump with a mark of 13.07 meters.
In the 100 meters, freshman
Jason Hart secured a second-place finish and the seventh-fastest time in program history after crossing the line in 10.84 seconds to qualify for the league championships. Junior
QuVontre Harper also set a conference standard in the event with a time of 10.96 seconds to finish fourth overall.
Additionally, Hart qualified in the 200 meters following a third-place finish with a time of 21.77 seconds, which ranks fifth all-time at UMO. Sophomore
Andrew Nixon crossed the line with a time of 22.31 seconds to hit a league standard.
Senior
Jordan Martin established a conference mark in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a time of 16.07 seconds, while sophomore
Riley Willcox finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 59.33 seconds.
Mount Olive returns in two weeks at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational hosted on March 16-18 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
