MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 18) – Senior Joshua Faison delivered a pair of top-three finishes on Saturday, as the University of Mount Olive men's track & field team competed on the final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
Faison registered a second-place finish in the discus with a mark of 52.47 meters on his final toss on Saturday. He finished behind a Division I thrower from Duke, who set the Doug Shaw Stadium record in the event. Additionally, Faison reached a distance of 16.33 meters in the shot put to place third overall.
(*Note: Mount Olive is awaiting a review of Faison's shot put mark, which could be a conference and school record if updated to 16.93 meters)
Sophomore Demonte Lavender registered a league qualifying mark after clearing 1.93 meters in the high jump to finish eighth in the event.
In the 4x400 relay, sophomore Riley Willcox, junior Joshua Morell, freshman Jason Hart, and sophomore Andrew Nixon posted the third-fastest time in the event in the Conference Carolinas this season with a time of 3 minutes, 26.55 seconds.
Additionally, Willcox recorded a conference championship mark in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:05.89, which ranks third in the league during the outdoor season.
Junior Jontavus Walker reached the conference qualifying mark in the 400 meters after crossing the line at 49.58 seconds, which is the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas this year.
In the shot put, sophomore Nicholas Cloud improved his league mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.43 meters to place fifth in a field of nearly 70 throwers.
The Trojans return to the track on March 24-25, when they host the annual Adidas Trojan Challenge at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
