MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 17) – In his first appearance of the outdoor season, senior Justen Burnette produced an NCAA provisional mark in the 100 meters on Friday, as the Trojans competed at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

Burnette registered a blistering pace of 10.49 seconds in the 100m preliminaries to establish the unofficial fastest time in the Southeast Region. Reigning Conference Carolinas Track Athlete of the Year, Burnette hits an NCAA provisional mark in his first outdoor event while qualifying for the conference championships.

Additionally, freshman Jason Hart improved his qualifying mark in the 100 meters after crossing the line in 10.76 seconds in South Carolina.

In the long jump, junior Kamden Johnson placed seventh overall and hit a conference qualifying mark after establishing a distance of 7.01 meters. Sophomore Jaleal Hamlett finished 12th in a field over nearly 80 competitors and posted a league standard in the event with a mark of 6.72m.

Senior Jordan Martin improved his conference championship time in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.66 seconds.

On Friday, the Trojans featured a pair of athletes that improved their league qualifying mark in the hammer throw while placing in the top 10. Sophomore Alex Smith-Fort'e finished seventh in the field with a toss of 51.44 meters, while teammate Israel Long reached a personal-best distance of 49.12 meters to place ninth.

Mount Olive returns to action tomorrow, March 18, for the final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational hosted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
