Mount Olive ranks No. 5 in final NFHCA poll

COLORADO SPRINGS (Nov. 7) – The University of Mount Olive field hockey program ranked No. 5 in the final Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Coaches Poll, which was released on  Tuesday, as the team was featured in the final poll for a consecutive year.

The Trojans concluded the season with a 15-2 overall record after posting a 15-game winning streak and an undefeated 14-0 mark in conference play. UMO also captured its second-straight regular season conference title and earned the No. 1 seed in the league tournament.

Mount Olive was ranked in the national poll for nine of a possible 10 weeks during the regular season after opening the year No. 9 overall. The Trojans climbed as high as No. 4, which was the highest ranking in program history. Additionally, UMO was featured in the Atlantic Region rankings, which determine the participates for the NCAA Tournament.

East Stroudsburg (17-2) earned the top spot with 12-of-14 first place votes after capturing its third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in the previous four years. 
Shippensburg (15-4) was ranked second overall with the final two first-place nods while Saint Anselm (18-3) climbed two slots and was ranked third. Kutztown (16-3) fell one position to fourth and Mount Olive rounded out the top five overall.

The Trojans were one of two South Atlantic Conference (SAC) teams featured in the final NFHCA Top 10 poll with league-champion Lander finishing the season at No. 10 overall.

This fall, UMO recorded its winningest season in team history and finished with double-digit victories for a second straight year. The Trojans finished with the top ranked offense in the country after leading all of NCAA Division II with 3.88 goals, 3.06 assists, and 10.82 points per game. Mount Olive featured the SAC Coach of the Year for a consecutive season, its first-ever Offensive Player of the Year, and eight players on the all-conference teams.
