CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 6) – Senior
Celine Fleurilus placed eighth overall on Friday afternoon, as the University of Mount Olive women's cross country team finished 13th in the team standings at the Royals XC Challenge at the McAlpine Course.
The Trojans totaled 351 points in their first event in three weeks and final preparation ahead of the Conference Carolinas Championship later this month. Converse claimed the team championship with 15 points after featuring the top six runners in the five-kilometer race. Georgia College placed second overall with 80 points while Auburn Montgomery rounded out the top three with 182 points.
Fleurilus paced the program for a fourth consecutive race and registered her first top-10 finish of the season after crossing the line with a personal best time of 19 minutes, 44.91 seconds. In four races this year, she has three top-20 finishes for the Trojans.
Sophomore
Ciara Sulton posted a time of 21:38.96 and placed 52nd overall while competing in a field of 180 runners in the Queen City. Fellow sophomore
Natalie Baldwin finished two positions behind in 54th place after registering a time of 21:44.20 on Friday.
Junior
Caroline Allred crossed the line with a time of 25:44.57 to finish 141st overall while senior Tylyia Triggs produced a personal best time of 27:04.88 to finish 158th overall.
Converse sophomore Lauren Beatty captured the individual title by over 11 seconds with a time of 18:50.45.
The Trojans are idle for two weeks as they prepare for the Conference Carolinas Championships on Oct. 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
