van Duin garners weekly defensive accolade

ROCK HILL, S.C. (Oct. 17) – Following a pair of outstanding performance on defense last week, University of Mount Olive defender Maud van Duin was selected the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.

A native of Hazerswoude-Rijndijk, Netherlands, van Duin led the UMO backline from the center-back position, as the Trojans recorded a 2-0 mark in conference play. On Tuesday afternoon, van Duin and the defense held Wingate to just five total shots during the match in a 6-1 victory. Over the weekend, she played all 60 minutes and limited the Crusaders to six shots in a 1-0 shutout over Belmont Abbey on Saturday.

van Duin garners the honor for the second time in her career after earning the accolade in Nov. 2022. She has played in all 13 contests for the Trojans this year and logged the most minutes on the team. van Duin and the defense have held opponents to five shots or fewer in five contests. She becomes the second player to earn the defensive weekly honor from the conference this season.

Mount Olive will host Newberry on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in conference play at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex, starting at 3 p.m.
