PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Mount Olive's Andrew Avarello, Jake Mackenzie, and Lucas Shein have been selected to the USILA Men's Lacrosse North/South Division I-II All-Star Game, it was announced by the United States Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Association. The All-Star game will take place Friday, May 27 at Providence College. This is a record-breaking number of UMO men's lacrosse players selected to participate in the All-Star game.
Avarello, a graduate student from Clarence, NY, had 209 saves and allowed less than 10 goals a game during the 2022 season. Avarello received USILA All-Region, Conference Carolinas All-Conference, and Conference Carolinas All-Tournament honors.
Mackenzie, a senior from Mount Airy, MD, was a USILA All-Region, Conference Carolinas All-Conference, and Conference Carolinas All-Tournament selection. Mackenzie, a short stick defensive midfielder, led the team in ground balls with 97 and forced 10 turnovers on the season.
Lucas Shein, a senior midfielder from British Columbia, Canada, scored 26 goals and collected eight assists. Shein also earned USILA All-Region, Conference Carolinas All-Conference, and Conference Carolinas All-Tournament recognition.
In addition to the three UMO players selected to the game, Jacob Williams, a UMO graduate and two-time USILA All-American for the Trojans, was selected to represent Stony Brook University, where he is a graduate student.
Mount Olive finished the season 10-6, after falling to Belmont Abbey College in the championship game of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
