Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's men's lacrosse team faced off in a non-conference game and won 8-6, against the Griffins of Westminster College on Sunday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Griffins were off to a strong start in the first quarter as Skyler Weathers scored the first goal of the game. Westminster was able to find two more scoring opportunities and were up 3-0 early in the game. On a man-up play,
Chapman Parker scored the first Trojan goal bringing the score 3-1. With two minutes left in the quarter,
Jake Polinsky was able to score bringing the score 3-2 with Westminster College still in the lead.
At the start of the second quarter,
Lucas Shein scored at the 10:02 mark of the game leveling the score 3-3. Shortly after,
Chance Urban scored a goal and the Trojan sideline erupted as they gained their first lead of the game with the score standing 3-4. The Griffins were able to close the second quarter with another goal by Weathers, bringing the score to four all.
The third quarter was when UMO took charge as
Blake Tallon and Polinsky were able to see the back of the cage. The Trojans gained their largest lead of the game so far and the score stood 6-4. Westminster was almost scoreless for 10 minutes until Kade Oswin scored closing the third quarter 6-5, Trojans in the lead.
After both teams went back and forth in the last frame of the game,
Aidan Lalonde was able to fly one past the Griffin keeper with 7:27 left in the game. The Trojans were still in the lead 7-5. Westminster kept the game alive as Weather scored his third goal of the game and brought the score to 7-6. The Griffins tried their best efforts to force the game into overtime as they needed to chase down one more goal. With eight seconds left of the game, Urban secured the win with an open cage goal. The Trojans won 8-6.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was when
Blake Tallon scored in the third quarter of the game, giving the Trojans their first lead of the game (5-4). This ultimately pushed UMO to secure the win over Westminster.

Mount Olive was led by
Jake Polinsky with two goals, one assist and three groundballs.
Chance Urban with two goals and two groundballs.
Mike Marto collected 14-18 face off wins. Goalkeeper
Andrew Avarello collected 16 saves.
GRIFFIN LEADERS
Westminster was led by Skyler Weathers who collected three goals and three groundballs. Goalkeeper Gavin Beilman collected 22 saves.
