MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (April 17) - The University of Mount Olive Trojans end their regular season with a 14-3 loss against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey in Friday afternoon conference play.
This loss drops the Trojans 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Belmont Abbey remains undefeated in the conference with a 9-0 win streak and 13-3 overall record currently taking the rop spot in the conference.
Mount Olive had multiple scoring opportunities with 33 total shots but only 16 of them being on goal. Goal scorers for UMO was Sophomore,
Brayden Rieger who had two goals on two shots on goal, adding one ground ball to his stats for the day, while freshman,
Julian Amick had the third goal in the game. Sophomore,
Kam Bailey had one assist claiming one ground ball.
On defense, face-off specialist
Bryce Ailiff grabbed six ground balls to complete his day on the turf. Senior Nicholas Louge was a powerhouse for the Trojans winning 14 of his 19 face offs snatching four ground balls in the process evening slipping in a shot. Freshman
Jason Johnson caused three turnovers for Mount Olive adding a ground ball to the mix, while classmate
Gannon Hackler caused two turnovers and captured two ground balls.
In the goal a senior from Wake Forest, N.C. had a day with 14 saves on 14 goals grabbing five ground balls and even having an interception to cause a turnover.
The Trojans will be heading into conference championships April 20th to compete in Semi-finals with times that are TBD.
